Organic Markets

Slow Food Market Avenida Reforma x Avenida Colon.

On Saturdays there is a growing slow food market in Merida located at the back of the shopping centre on the corner of Calle 72 (Reforma) and Avenida Colon.  from 9 am to 12pm. There are always great bakery products there with fresh yogurt from Moniques Bakery which has relocated to the north side of town.  Depending on the season there are fresh veggies and fruit. Usually nice organic tomatoes, cucumbers, squash and salads are available from different venders.  You can buy home made jams, pates and cheeses from locals and expats from the US of course but also France, Italy, Korea, Czechoslovakia, Argentina, Peru etc. Also Cafe Organico, a new Korean restaurant and deli and one of my favourite restaurants, Los Platos Rotos,  are open most days of the week.

The supermarkets with the most organic products are the Superama on Prolongation de Montejo and the Costco on Calle 60 Norte.

There is a good little shop for healthy products and limited fresh veggies and fruit called Ya'Axtal Eco-Tienda also on Prolongation de Montejo x calle 23 & 25

There are groups and co-ops that grow organic crops but most of them are out of town.  Some deliver.
